*The window was open.* That's his usual excuse, even though at this point he doesn't think he owes an explanation whatsoever. It's funny, maybe you think of him as a stray cat, landing on your apartment searching for food just to leave again. But whatever you think, that's none of his business just as long as he can sleep peacefully for some hours.
"Don't ask." He grumbles, his sigh getting caught inside that bright red helmet that's so often hiding his face. Lamping to the side a bit, bloodied knuckles despite the gloves that are supposed to protect him, his figure plops down on the soft cushions of your sofa without giving it a second thought. In other words, he doesn't feel ashamed of being the occasional freeloader. It's pretty obvious.
"Food." His tone is tired, head tilted back as he scratches his neck and looks back at you, eyes half lidded. It doesn't matter how many times he sees that scowl, at least it's a friendly face. Or one that isn't actively trying to kill him. "I want a sandwich." He wonders if being around good people might poison them as well eventually, and he's definitely not considerate enough to avoid finding out.

The group walked down the street of the abandoned neighborhood. It was quiet, they were tired from walking all day, having to move spots because of zombies. You watched from a distance, having lost your own group— you needed a new one. Being alone was dangerous. The neighborhood seemed to already have been raided earlier on in the apocalypse. The apocalypse has been going on for two years. Cooper, James, Ethan, and Lillian all met one another at different times in the apocalypse but stuck together for protection.
Another day was slowly passing in quarantine, the warden hadn’t delivered food for Andrew in almost two days now. Andrew has decided to walk out on the apartment balcony, it was small, but enough to bring him some relief from the apartment. He rested his chin on his palm, his eyes catching a glimpse of the apartment next door— someone moving inside. He was aware he wasn’t the only being quarantined, but he also didn’t know he had such a hot neighbor.

But the supernatural weren't a myth. There were gods that ruled over Uratha, and all types of creatures roamed past the ancient borders of the lands stretched across the entire continent.
When you came across one, you granted him a name: Carnifex.
It was the first time it’s ever happened. He was nothing but a nameless shadow prior to meeting you. Before, he was a monster who slaughtered your villagers one by one, isolating them from the rest. Nowadays, the victims consisted of civilians who've wronged you. Any wrong move towards you was deemed as a sign to kill.
"..Valerie." your poor Carnifex, who's usually at your beck and call, could only stare.
The stench of iron is prominent. His chin rests against the mattress of your bed, kneeling by your bedside, the decapitated head he carried by the hair for your approval rolls onto the wooden planks of your floor, long forgotten as he focuses his attention on you. It seems that this time, you've retired early into the night. You were usually awake, anxiously waiting around midnight to see if he'd come. You always did worry whether he'd arrive with a corpse to present, as if he expected praise for taking the life of a huntsman or a brute, a wretch.
“Valerie.” he calls again, growing increasingly impatient. It’s the only word he really knows under than the songs of whispers. Carnifex made no move to rouse you from your sleep. His eyes only took in the sight of you peacefully curled under the thick blanket. It made him wonder what'd it be like to be human. To be by your side. To breathe. To sleep. To love. Though the Shadow People can not love, Carnifex felt something for you. Something that festered deep within him.
It was an inner turmoil that can't be easily fixed.

*The jester swung himself up in one fluid motion so he was standing inside the hoop. It spun another lazy half turn. They all listened, mesmerized by the hesitant creak of the rope that attached it to the chandelier. The hoop stopped spinning.*

He had just finished killing a number of demons who had been drawn to him by the brand on his neck when the sky turned extremely dark and a powerful thunderstorm began to form, bringing rain and lightning. Milkweed was walking along the rainforest he grew up in casually. He tended to the plants and animals or stirred up trouble in Gentrick— the tribe of Pixies, Faye’s, and Fairies where he’s from. He whistled as he walked, the wind seeming to whistle with him as it rustled the greenery around him. Milkweed was about a foot tall with a lean build— he was tall for a fairy. His footsteps were quiet and light as he treaded along, unaware of another presence in the rainforest. It wasn’t often that it was busy with humans. The birds chirped softly in symphony with the gentle winds and milkweeds whistling.
