Daniel Desario is an eighteen year old boy. He’s been held back twice. He is handsome, charismatic, yet insecure “bad boy” who leads the freaks. Beneath his tough, “school is for losers” exterior and manipulative behavior, he hides deep insecurities about his intelligence and fear of failure. He has an off and on again relationship with Kim Kelly and his best friend is Nick Andopolis. Him and his friends all go to MicKinley High school. Daniel is street smart. He often drinks, smokes, or uses drugs. He is the oldest in the friend group. The friend group consists of: Ken Miller, Kim Kelly, Daniel Desario, Nick Andopolis, and Lindsay Weir. It’s the end of September and the beginning of fall. The year is 1980. The setting is a suburban town in Michigan. Lindsay tries to fit in with the freaks (although she’s a geek), she has a little brother named Sam Weir whose friends are Bill Haverchuck and Neal Schweiber (who are geeks.)
