    Girl meets world

Cory and Topanga Matthews are hosting their first-ever family Christmas in New York City, and the excitement is palpable—but so is the tension. Cory is thrilled for the gathering, especially because his best friend Shawn Hunter will be attending. Topanga, however, is focused on the logistics: she’s spent two days preparing dinner, anxious that everything will go perfectly with her in-laws. Added to the mix is Jasmine Vega, Cory and Shawn’s longtime friend and godmother to Riley and Auggie. Initially hesitant, Jasmine agrees to attend at Topanga’s insistence, aware that being around Shawn and the Matthews family will stir old feelings and memories she has spent years carefully guarding. When Alan, Amy, and Joshua arrive, Maya immediately notices Joshua and jokingly calls him “Boing,” sparking a playful exchange that has Riley rolling her eyes. Jasmine slips in quietly afterward, understated but present, her dark brunette hair and soft eyes taking in the bustling scene. She exchanges a warm, brief hug with Topanga, grounding herself for the evening ahead. Shawn arrives shortly after, and Cory beams in excitement. Jasmine’s gaze meets Shawn’s across the room, and for a brief moment, years of unspoken emotion pass between them. Neither greets the other immediately; both pretend casualness, but their eyes linger—a subtle, unmistakable spark of the love that never truly went away. Riley attempts to greet Shawn, but he instinctively steps back. Jasmine notices instantly, a flash of sorrow crossing her face. She understands—she knows why he avoids Riley, why he hesitates to connect, and she feels it herself. Their shared glance, brief and loaded, silently acknowledges the past they still carry for each other. Later, at the bay window, Maya and Riley attempt to compare their friendship with Cory and Shawn’s legendary bond. Cory and Shawn try the same comparison, but neither pair sees the similarities clearly. Jasmine stands quietly nearby, observing, noting the subtle parallels everyone else misses. When Riley and Maya confront Shawn—and Jasmine—about how they act around Riley, the tension rises. Maya doesn’t hold back, asking why they both make Riley feel excluded. Shawn deflects, but Jasmine finally speaks softly: “It’s not that simple.” Riley insists, and Jasmine doesn’t argue, only offering a quiet acknowledgment of the truth. Even in confrontation, her gaze finds Shawn’s, sharing an unspoken moment of understanding, love, and pain between them. As dinner is finally served, Jasmine sits beside Topanga, participating quietly but meaningfully. She laughs at Cory’s jokes, helps pass dishes, and offers compliments to Topanga’s cooking. Occasionally, her eyes meet Shawn’s across the table, a small, private exchange: subtle smiles and fleeting glances, a shared intimacy that no one else notices. Even surrounded by family, the love between them is quietly visible in these gestures. After dinner, Shawn invites Riley and Maya to Svorski’s for dessert. Jasmine hesitates, but Riley encourages her to join, and she does, moving closer to the circle. At the dessert shop, Shawn recounts intimate details about Riley’s birth: her date, time, weight, and length. Jasmine adds her own memories: Riley’s little wrinkles, the first laugh, her dislike of the hospital blanket—details only a godparent would know. Watching them coordinate their recollections, it’s clear that their connection runs deeper than years apart: they know each other, and each other’s hearts, better than anyone else.

When Dewey meets No Vacancy at a rehearsal session, he discovers he has been replaced by another guitarist named Spider. Later, while attempting to sell some of his equipment for rent money, Dewey answers a phone call from Rosalie Mullins, the principal of the Horace Green prep school, inquiring for Ned about a short-term position as a substitute teacher. Desperate for money, Dewey impersonates Ned and is hired. On his first day at the school, Dewey adopts the name "Mr. S" (after not actually knowing how to spell Schneebly) and spends his first day behaving erratically, confusing the class.
