Static Between Us (or What the Halls Say)

College AU. Illumi and Y/N have been together since middle school — a relationship that only exists because Y/N refused to take no for an answer back then, and Illumi, in his own detached way, eventually just... stopped resisting it. It's not a loud relationship. Illumi doesn't do declarations or jealousy or reassurance. He shows up. He stays. That's always been enough for Y/N, or at least enough that they stopped asking for more. Hisoka is Illumi's ex from before Y/N — and somehow, impossibly, still around. Still part of the friend group. Still texting Illumi at odd hours. Everyone treats it as normal because Hisoka insists it's normal, that he and Illumi are "fine," that there's nothing left to pick at. Illumi never confirms this so much as fails to deny it, which Y/N has always taken as agreement, because arguing with Illumi's silence has never gotten them anywhere. Then the rumor hits campus: someone swears they saw Illumi and Hisoka in an empty classroom, mid-kiss, before class change. It spreads the way these things do — fast, exaggerated, impossible to trace back to a source. By the time it reaches Y/N, it's already been through six people. Y/N asks Illumi directly. And Illumi — who could kill this in one sentence — doesn't. He doesn't say yes. He doesn't say no. He just looks at Y/N with that flat, unreadable calm and lets the silence answer instead, the way he always has. Y/N doesn't push. Doesn't accuse, doesn't cry, doesn't make a scene — that's not their dynamic and never has been. But something shifts quietly. They start noticing things they'd trained themselves not to: how long Hisoka's texts run, the specific way Illumi's shoulders angle toward him in a crowded room, the inside jokes that predate Y/N by years. Nothing dramatic

    Silent Devotion

Three years ago, Illumi Zoldyck met Y/N under circumstances neither of them anticipated becoming significant — a job, a crossed path, an assignment that wasn't supposed to leave a mark. But it did. Illumi, who processes the world through calculation rather than instinct, found himself returning to that meeting again and again in his own quiet way — not with warmth exactly, but with a persistence that, for someone like him, functions as its own kind of devotion.

    Terms and Conditions

Illumi married Hisoka once, for reasons that had nothing to do with love and everything to do with leverage — a transaction dressed up as a relationship, the kind of arrangement Zoldycks understand instinctively. It ended when Hisoka made the mistake of meaning it. Illumi doesn't do sincerity well, and he liked Hisoka a lot more before Hisoka started looking at him like he had something to lose. Y/N is the opposite problem, or maybe the opposite solution. Older, steady, absurdly wealthy in the unbothered way of someone who's never had to ask twice for anything. Illumi found him at a point when he wanted something low-maintenance — no expectations, no scenes, no possessiveness. Y/N gave him exactly that: money without conditions, presence without demands, a place to disappear to when the Zoldyck estate got to be too much or Hisoka got to be too persistent. It was supposed to stay simple. It isn't, anymore — not because either of them says so, but because Illumi's visits have stretched from days to weeks, because he's started watching Y/N work instead of just waiting for him to be done, because he's stopped performing indifference around him the way he performs it around everyone else. Y/N has noticed. He doesn't push. He's patient in a way that unsettles Illumi more than urgency would — the sense that Y/N is fine waiting for something Illumi hasn't admitted he's giving. Hisoka knows Y/N exists. He knows the shape of it — money, comfort, an escape hatch — and he's decided that's all it is, because the alternative is unbearable. He's wrong, and some part of him already suspects it. He just hasn't decided what he's going to do about it yet.

    Some Ă— Brother Ă— Trouble

Premise Set right after the Hunter Exam concludes. Y/N has known Illumi and Hisoka for years — met them both around the same stretch of time, before Hisoka ever left the Spiders, back when Illumi was still testing whether Y/N could be useful to him at all. What started as something loose and transactional between the three of them settled into Illumi and Y/N being together, with Hisoka staying orbit-close the way he does with anything he finds entertaining. Y/N gets along with Hisoka fine on the surface — trades barbs, doesn't flinch from him, understands him as well as anyone not obsessed with fighting him can. But Y/N doesn't trust what's left between him and Illumi. Illumi's "friendship" with Hisoka has always run on something unspoken — an old current of mutual usefulness and unfinished curiosity that predates Y/N and never fully closed out. Illumi will never confirm or deny it. He just watches Y/N ask and lets the silence answer for him, which is its own kind of confirmation. The dynamic between Illumi and Y/N is its own problem — controlling on his end, cold when it benefits him, honest in a way that cuts more than comforts. Y/N gives some of it back: sharp, unbothered, willing to needle him the way few people can without dying for it. But Y/N has limits Illumi doesn't seem to carry — a line where manipulation stops being a game and starts being cruelty, which Illumi crosses without noticing he's crossed it. The story picks up with Y/N present for the aftermath of Illumi's reveal as Gittarackur — watching Gon break Illumi's arm, watching Illumi barely register the pain, watching him hand Killua's location over to Gon's group like it costs him nothing. Then Hisoka shows up right after, and Y/N is the one left standing between them, cataloguing exactly how easily Illumi's whole demeanor shifts the second Hisoka's in the room — and deciding, not for the first time

    RedHaven

Eliot Vance was supposed to be in and out of Redhaven Correctional in under an hour. He's been there eleven months. At twenty years old, Eli is serving a four-year sentence in the same facility he was hired to infiltrate — caught on the inside during a deal gone wrong, doing time for contraband that wasn't even his. The drugs he carried belonged to y/n, a sharp, untouchable distributor who built their network from nothing and has never once left fingerprints on anything. Eli is the closest thing to a loose end their ever had. He hasn't talked. They haven't decided what that means yet. Inside Redhaven's integrated population — one of the first correctional facilities housing Alphas and Omegas under the same roof — Eli is building something quiet and precise from a prison cell. Influence without affiliation. Knowledge without exposure. He has an officer who can't figure out what angle he's working, a dominant Alpha who controls half the yard, a fellow Omega who hits first and explains after, and a boss on the outside who funds his comfort and calls it professional investment. He knows it isn't. He hasn't corrected him either

    Nothing to Declare

The estate is silent by the time they reach Illumi's room, the kind of silence that swallows footsteps whole. Hernandez drops onto the carpet first, cross-legged, still half amused at himself for agreeing to any of this. Illumi settles across from him without a word, folding down with the same unbothered precision he does everything else. Hisoka takes the space between them, loose-limbed, pleased in a way that should probably be concerning.
