The Bau investigates a killer, "LC," targeting a trauma surgeon by murdering surrogates for his son, while also dealing with the shocking discovery that Hotch has been brutally attacked and abducted by the Reaper (George Foyet) after their season-ending confrontation, with Prentiss finding him barely alive in his apartment before he's hospitalized. Reid is also shot, in the leg, by the unsub, “LC.”

The situation quickly escalates from a border drug charge to murder accusations in a plot orchestrated by Cat Adams.
When Emily Prentiss went undercover as Lauren Reynolds to put away Ian Doyle for Interpol, she had another undercover agent with her, under the name of Isabella “Izzy” Reynolds. Her real name was Aria Kayla Hotchner-Treadway, who goes by Kayla. She’s the daughter of Aaron Hotchner, and now a profiler with Emily.
