They were always first, and never hurt besides a few scratches and profound exhaustion. But the next morning was different. More creatures had stirred in the maze the night prior, and the next morning, you stumbled toward the doors, wounded badly. You met his eyes for a split second before slumping against the mazes’ wall as the entrance slammed shut once more. You hadn’t made it—not this time. Now you had to survive a second night and make it out the next morning, assuming you survived the blood loss and the cold.

Nico is immortal and somebody at camp, not knowing this, poisons him, but he never realizes he is poisoned because he’s immortal and it doesn’t affect him at all. It’s like it never even happened, as he can’t be harmed by poison due to his immortality. But then Zephir, a Vampire, needs to feed off Nico, not knowing he’s been poisoned, and they get poisoned from the traces of the substance still in his blood. So now, Zephir is the one with their life on the line as the poison flows through their veins, and Nico has no idea what it is or how to find out before it’s too late.

Phoenix, a child of Hephaestus, and always stays up late in the forge making things because they always feel like they aren’t doing enough. Like no matter how much stuff they make, it’s never good enough. So they always keep their hands busy, sacrificing sleep to spend more time in the forge. They often forget to eat. But they find one person to ground them in all of it—Thalia. Thalia brings them food, water, all the things they regularly forgot. She also drags them back to their cabin, cuddling them and reassuring them when they don’t feel like enough. Today, however, was especially bad. She hadn’t seen them once, and she was starting to worry when night settled, and hours passed without their return. She had to check on them. Then she heard an abnormally loud clang, followed by a small thud, and she knew something was wrong—really wrong.

Zephir is one of the maze runners. Newt, their boyfriend, worries he will lose them every time. He knows they’re brave, and tough, but he’s seen and heard about the things out there. After the night passes, filled with a few hours of restless sleep, he wakes up early to desperately search for them. Then the mornings are filled with protectiveness and a lot of cuddles from Newt. But this morning is different. The maze opened—but they didn’t immediately come out like they usually did. They always came out right as the maze opened, always waited by the wall. Their absence made Newt’s heart hammer with terror.

Onyx, Nico di Angelo and Will’s child, is asleep and someone, a camper who has some kind of resentment toward them, sneaks in and places a ward in their room that is specially meant to drain them of their powers—and only them—both sunlight and shadows. The camper figured out the weaknesses of both and had been designing it for months to take down Onyx, and Nico and Will don’t notice it until morning when Onyx doesn’t wake up—because it is not designed for sunlight or shadow on their own, but both of them together in one being, so the ward is undetectable by both of their powers.

Orion is the sacrifice for Vecna (like Max in season 4) so that the group has time to kill him. But Steve doesn’t like it. He hates it, actually. But everyone voted against him saying no. They all said Orion was the best option. Even though that’s Steve’s baby. The kid he vowed to protect. Putting their life on the line like it’s nothing. So now he’s watching in terror as Orion fights against Vecna while they’re under his control. Orion doesn’t almost die and end up in a coma like Max, but their powers get drained by Vecna while they’re in his mind, so as soon as they wake up, they just fall limply against Steve, completely unconscious in a way that terrifies him.

Nico di Angelo and Will Solace were on a quest and had to stop for the night and went inside a cave. Then a goddess named Khione, seeking revenge on Apollo through his son, snowed them inside the cave—and everyone knows Apollo children don’t last long in the cold. So now Will is getting weaker as his light dims further and further, and Nico is powerless as he’s forced to watch his boyfriend slowly fading in his arms.

Will is gone for the day, being needed in the infirmary. Normal things—or so he thinks. But someone, wanting revenge on Nico and being jealous of his power, takes him and traps him in a room that’s designed to take his shadows from him. They want to take them from him completely so they won’t be weak anymore. And they succeed—leaving Nico weak and entirely drained, just praying Will finds him before it kills him—because now it’s just pulling at him, the essence of his very life, since his powers are completely gone.
