So BASICALLY Y/n has been dating Sodapop for 2 whole years. They were in a very happy relationship and you could tell they were perfect for each other. The gang always thought that Sodapop was going to marry Y/n. But then one day, Sodapop started acting weird towards her, ignoring her sometimes, and whenever she asked for them to go somewhere, (for example: the drive-in) he always blew her off and says “maybe another time” or “I have other things to do” 🤨🤨🤨. (Slight Ginny and Georgia reference bc I was watching the show again after a couple of months 😭✌️) so basically Y/n is Ponyboy’s twin sister and ever since their parents died, Y/n was forgotten. Not ignored, just forgotten, like they forgot to remember her. Yes, she was spoken to but she wasn’t ever included in anything. Ever since their parents died (a week ago) everyone (Darry, Sodapop, and Ponyboy) basically just fell apart. And whenever they had plans, they wouldn’t include Y/n. Whenever she said something about it or her mood changed, she would be called dramatic and everyone (including the whole gang) would call her dramatic and start ganging up on her. Sometimes she acts like it doesn’t hurt and that she’s okay just because her brothers are obviously not okay. She’s depressed but just hides it better. She gets guilt tripped and, maybe she was ignored sometimes, there was forgotten dinner, she was left out, and she got expelled from school for getting in a fight and no one even noticed.

Soon after Sandy had left Sodapop, you had become friends with the greaser gang. You were close with all of them. You had spent months with them, until Sandy decided to come back like nothing. Sodapop had forgiven Sandy, and immediately got back together with her. Sandy, almost instantly, started to fake horrendous acts, such as fake injuries and making everyone obey here because she was pregnant and "delicate." The gang was definitely not happy with Soda, given the fact that the baby wasn't even his. Sandy was more than likely way more jealous when you were around, there was no doubt. If Sandy hadn't been pregnant, you and gang probably would've jumped her by now. God, she wanted to just make your life a miserable, living hell. The gang. The gang who'll fight anyone. Any Soc. Anybody, just to protect and take care of their own. The other greasers. Y/n is a part of the gang, but mostly causes the trouble. Y/n doesn't listen sometimes. They just want to have fun. Be reckless. Cause fights. Rumbles. Piss people off. Make Socs mad. Anything to entertain themselves. Two-Bit makes jokes about it. The gang teases Y/n for it. Darry knows to be more protective for Y/n. If they're all hanging out, and Y/n says they're going to go somewhere real quick, it's obvious that they're going to cause trouble. The gang brushes it off sometimes. Everything's trouble with Y/n. They let it happen. Let them off the hook. Because what's the point? Y/n will just forget about this stupid speech they give them, and make someone else angry. It's a cycle. But sometimes, it can get out of hand.

She'd always steal something from the store with Two-Bit, or go down to The Dingo with the whole group while Darry was out working. She was having fun, despite the problems with the Socs. The group would tease her, she'd tease back. She was always protective over everyone, and was there when someone was feeling down. They trusted her. Until, a girl came around. Madelyn Simons. She was a greaser. The group welcomed her in after about a week of being unsure, but after about two months of hanging out with her, it's like she took y/n's spot. The boys pay more attention to Madelyn now. Two-Bit steals from stores with her, and they go down to The Dingo with Madelyn instead of Y/n. Sure, they hang out with y/n too, but whenever Madelyn comes around, they act like y/n doesn't exist.

(READ THE WHOLE THING) When Y/n saw Ponyboy, she thought it was love at first sight…until she realized she was being played. Sherri “Cherry” Valance caught Ponyboy’s attention faster (now I know this sounds like one of my old stories but hear me out 😭🫰) and for some reason, the gang liked Cherry. They never knew Cherry was Y/n’s ex best friend. And let’s just say…that “thing” or “romantic tension” as you would call it between Ponyboy and Y/n, that was officially over 😢. And now, Cherry and Ponyboy are dating. But, not because Cherry likes him…but because she hates Y/n and Y/n hates her. Sometimes Cherry and Y/n would get into arguments and since the gang doesn’t know Y/n and Cherry’s past, they stick up for the “new girl” instead of the girl they know better than Cherry. It’s so clear that the gang doesn’t love Y/n like they used to anymore and became more hostile to her. Y/n became left out a lot more and whenever she says something about it, the gang says that she’s “over reacting” or that she makes everything about herself. So Y/n just pretends she’s okay when she’s not okay at all. And the worst part about it is the fact that Cherry makes everything sound so believable, that’s why Cherry and Y/n stopped being friends. Because Cherry is FAKE AS HELL (yes, this probably did happen irl 😛) and Y/n feels like Cherry was replacing her. Whenever Cherry shows up, the whole gang (except for Y/n) lights up and immediately starts talking to her. Y/n used to be so close to everyone in the gang especially Ponyboy, and they treated her like family (key word “treated”) until Cherry came and crushed it all down. Y/n is depressed, but not the type that makes you not feel emotion or anything like that, instead she has high-functional depression. High-functional depression is Y/n’s ability to conceal her struggles while still functioning and maintaining her social life makes it harder for others to notice her internal pain.

read the story for more context || y/n is seventeen, and is siblings with the Curtis brothers. shes the only girl in the gang, which makes some of them want to be protective towards her. she can handle her own, but darry can still see that fragile, precious look in her eyes. the same look she had when she was ten, and struggling with school work. even if he was only a few years older, he still noticed it. the way her eyes stared at a wall when overthinking about something she shouldn't be. the others did too, and once they notice it, their teasing and jokes die down a bit in their throats. it turns down a notch, but in the end, y/n always ends up laughing or teasing somebody else. and that is what makes her brothers seem protective of her. they just want to see her smile. they've always had a soft spot in their heart, just reserved for their sister.
