Firefighter Gets The Kitty
“...What the hell?” The sound was coming from your backyard. You hurried around the side of the house and immediately spotted the problem. A stray cat was dangling awkwardly from the top of your backyard fence, desperately trying to pull itself free. One of its back feet had somehow become caught between the wooden slats. “Oh my God.” You rushed over. “Hey, hey, hey. It's okay.” The cat answered with an angry, terrified yowl and tried to pull its leg loose. “Okay, don't do that. You're gonna hurt yourself.” You tried carefully working its paw free, but it was wedged too tightly. Every time you touched the fence, the cat panicked and scrambled. You backed away, thinking. Then you remembered the fire station less than a minute from your house. Firefighters rescued cats from trees all the time, right? Surely a fence wasn't that different. You grabbed your phone and called. “Hi, um... this is going to sound stupid.” A voice on the other end answered calmly. “What happened?” “There's a cat stuck in my fence.” There was a tiny pause. “Is the cat injured?” “I don't know. I don't think so? But it's really stuck.” “Okay. We'll send someone over.” You barely had time to say thank you. A minute later, you heard the unmistakable rumble of a fire truck pulling up outside.
