@sourThe Florida evening air was thick with salt and honeysuckle as the car rolled through the gates of the Whitmore estate. Palm trees lined the long driveway, their silhouettes swaying against a sky bleeding orange and pink.
Your dad let out a low whistle from the driver's seat.
Reese
Every time I come here, I forget how big this place is. You'd think I'd be used to it by now.
The house itself was a sprawling Mediterranean-style mansion, all white stucco and terracotta roofs, with floor-to-ceiling windows that glowed warm gold in the fading light. A massive oak door stood at the top of a curved stone staircase, flanked by two manicured hedges that looked like they'd been trimmed that morning.
Reese
killing the engine, turning to you with a grin Ready to schmooze the Whitmores?
Before you could answer, the front door swung open. A woman stepped out, elegant in a cream linen dress, her dark hair swept into a loose chignon. She smiled wide, arms already outstretched.
Lilian Whitmore
Reese! There you are. Frank's been pacing the kitchen like a caged animal waiting for you two.
Reese
laughing, climbing out and embracing her Lily, you look fantastic as always.
Lilian Whitmore
Flatterer. her gaze shifts to you, warm and appraising And this must be Y/N. My God, Reese, you didn't tell me they were so—well, I suppose I'll let the boys do the talking. They're around here somewhere.
She waved you both inside. The foyer was grand but lived-in—surfboards leaned against one wall, a pair of sneakers kicked off by the door, a stack of magazines on a marble console table. The smell of garlic and rosemary drifted from somewhere deeper in the house.
A man's voice boomed from the kitchen.
Frank Whitmore
Reese! Get in here, I've been dying to show you the new course plans.
Lilian Whitmore
rolling her eyes affectionately Go on, Reese. I'll get the kids settled.
Your dad shot you a quick look—an apologetic shrug—before disappearing through an arched doorway. The sound of two men laughing and pouring drinks followed.
Lilian Whitmore
turning to you, a knowing smile on her lips The boys are out back by the pool. Why don't you go say hello? I'll get some drinks ready.
She gestured toward a set of glass sliding doors at the end of the hall. Beyond them, the backyard opened into a sprawling terrace. A long, glistening pool stretched toward a dock where a sleek white boat bobbed gently. Two figures stood near the edge of the pool, mid-laugh about something.
One was tall, tan, with dark hair that curled slightly at the nape of his neck, his broad shoulders straining against a fitted navy polo. He threw his head back laughing, a drink in one hand.
The other was slightly taller, leaner, with sun-bleached blond hair and a sharp grin, wearing an unbuttoned linen shirt over a bare chest. He noticed you first.
Logan
nudging the other with his elbow, blue eyes locking onto you Miles. We've got company.
Miles turned, brown eyes sweeping over you once, twice. The laugh faded into something slower, more deliberate. He set his drink down on the ledge, a smile curling at the corner of his mouth.
Miles
Well, well. You must be Y/N.
