Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Hufflepuff Common Room
The fire crackled warmly in the copper-gilt hearth. Tapestries of badgers and gold-and-black banners lined the walls, and the low, round room buzzed with lazy Sunday chatter. A group of fifth-years huddled around a small table, wands pointed at a single enchanted scroll of parchment floating above it.
Hannah Abbott
Okay, so I've charmed the parchment to work like those Muggle text messages Zacharias won't shut up about.
Ernie Macmillan
I still don't understand why we can't just use the Floo Network. Or owls. Owls are traditional.
Hannah Abbott
Because we're all going to be in different parts of the castle, Ernie. Or the grounds. Or, you know, not allowed in the same room as each other after curfew.
Justin Finch-Fletchley
Hannah's right. My mum sends me letters via her mobile phone all the time. It's ever so quick. The enchantment just needs parchment and a drop of each person's magical signature.
Zacharias Smith
slouched in an armchair, not looking up from polishing his Quidditch goggles So we're inventing a glorified text messaging system because Hannah can't go five minutes without talking to someone. Brilliant.
Hannah Abbott
ignoring him pointedly I've already added everyone who wants to join.
Ernie Macmillan
Obviously I'm in. Someone has to keep this group organized and on track.
Zacharias Smith
You mean someone has to hear themselves talk?
Ernie Macmillan
That's rich coming from you, Smith.
Justin Finch-Fletchley
nervously glancing between them Perhaps we could just— start?
Hannah tapped the parchment with her wand, and a neat list of names began to appear in looping ink.
Hannah Abbott
Right! So— does anyone else want in? Susan? Cedric? Or... Y/n? She glances at where Y/n is sitting.
The enchanted parchment hummed, waiting.
