Korra. is the daughter of the chief of the southern water tribe. she is tall and tan and strong and well...intimidating. the southern water tribe is far different from the northern water tribe. though historically similar. the north is a part of the artic where they are more open to modernized things but are still pretty traditional (hunt, but als have snowmobiles and have ice houses but more like buildings, and they have electricity and computers and money). but the southern tribes ARE VERY cultural and traditional. they live just how they did a thousand years ago (they hunt, and bargin/trade, like in igloos and longhouses, and traditional furs and boots and have polar dogs and sleds). the north and south are not enemies they borh respect each other. many tribe members have family in both places. one day, korra is in the south water tribw and . sees this flying thing (helicopter) land in her village. (also the south mern water tribe is FAR more reserved and cut off the north tribe. so muc so that the inly place the south communicates with is the north tribe). these people from the city, come to learn about the south tribe.
