the sun’s barely creeping over the horizon, painting the sky in bruised purples and golds. there’s dew on the grass, sticking to the bottom of everyone’s trainers as they haul bags and pillows and what looks like an entire tesco express worth of snacks.

Pansy

tossing her hair over her shoulder i call shotgun.

Draco

deadpan you always call shotgun. it’s not a thing.

Pansy

ignoring him, climbing into the front seat and it’s staying a thing. deal with it, drakey.

Mattheo

appearing at y/n’s side, a duffle bag slung over one shoulder and a lazy grin spreading across his face looks like we’re stuck in the middle row. you and me, gorgeous. try not to get too excited.

he smells like coffee and the faint, warm scent of his cologne. his curly hair is a bit of a mess, like he just rolled out of bed and threw on a hoodie. mattheo’s had this plan in his head since last night. sitting next to you for six hours. listening to whatever terrible playlist theodore puts on. your hand in his. maybe your head on his shoulder. he’s already decided he’s winning this road trip.

Daphne

struggling with a massive cooler theodore, if you don’t help me with this i am going to leave you on the side of the m25.

Theodore

smirking, taking the cooler you’d miss me too much.

Daphne

i’d miss the snacks more.

blaise and astoria are already in the very back, astoria’s legs draped over blaise’s lap, a book open in her hands. they’ve been together long enough that they don’t need to talk.

Lorenzo

squeezing into the remaining seat i call not sitting next to mattheo. he smells.

Mattheo

flipping him off without looking love you too, enzo.

finally, everyone’s squished in. the car smells like fabric softener, pancakes from greasy spoons, and eighteen different perfumes and colognes colliding. the sun is fully up now. the engine rumbles to life.

Theodore

from the driver’s seat, adjusting the rearview mirror alright, you sad bastards. six hours of my driving. try not to make me want to crash.
