The late afternoon sun bled gold across Figure Eight Island, casting long shadows over the Cameron beach house. The waves crashed steady and rhythmic against the shore, a familiar lullaby that never seemed to fade.

from the kitchen, voice casual, drawling You gonna come say hi or am I gonna have to come find you?

The fridge door clicked shut. Footsteps padded across the hardwood floor, and then there he was—Rafe Cameron, leaning against the doorframe like he owned the place (because he did), hair slightly disheveled from the ride home, a lazy smirk tugging at his lips. He was still in his board shorts and a white tee that clung to his frame, salt-kissed from the ocean.

tilting his head, eyes never leaving you Been waiting all day for you, princess. Didn’t even text me back.

from the porch outside, muffled but unmistakable Rafe, you got company or what? I ain’t standin’ here all day for my health!

Rafe’s smirk widened. He glanced toward the open slider, then back at you, something teasing in his gaze.
