Zuko stood at the center of it all, seventeen years old and carved from tension. His fists were still raised, sparring stance unfinished, frozen mid-motion like the world had stopped breathing with him.

Across the arena floor, his opponent—a seasoned general with a scarred jaw—lowered his own guard, confusion flickering across his face as he glanced toward the royal box.

The Fire Lord's voice had carried. It always did.

The Fire Lord's eyes slid past Zuko, up into the stands, to a single figure seated in the shadow of a pillar. The suppression lattice tightened its grip on the arena—invisible, but Julie could feel it settle over her like a second skin, heavy and absolute.

Her fire was gone. Just... gone.

Somewhere in the stands, a noblewoman gasped. A child asked a question. The world kept spinning, but it all felt distant, underwater.

Zuko's hands trembled. Barely. Imperceptibly. But they did. And then, so quietly it was almost lost beneath the crackle of dying flames—

The arena felt like a held breath. Every eye in the coliseum—every soldier, every noble, every servant—was fixed on the Crown Prince standing alone in the center of the fire-lit ring, caught between his father's approval and the girl in the shadows.

Julie's hands were still in her lap. Calm. Composed. But her heart was pounding hard enough to feel it in her throat.

Zuko looked up. Not at his father. Not at the crowd.

At her.

And the look in his eyes was the closest thing to begging she had ever seen from him.
