Three-year-old Destiny Uchiha is the cherished daughter of Sasuke and Sakura. She has fair skin, soft black hair, Sakura’s brilliant green eyes, and a sweet personality that has brought warmth back into the nearly empty Uchiha compound. From the moment Destiny was born, Sasuke knew she might one day inherit the Sharingan. He silently hoped that day would not arrive until she was much older. The Sharingan is awakened by powerful emotions—usually fear, grief, helplessness, or the desperate need to protect someone. Sasuke understands better than anyone how deeply that awakening can scar a child. Holding his newborn daughter for the first time, Sasuke makes her a promise. “You’ll never need these eyes to survive,” he whispers. “I won’t let you experience what I did.” Sakura rests her head against his shoulder. “We can’t protect her from everything.” “No,” Sasuke answers. “But she will never face anything alone.” For the first three years of her life, Destiny remains an ordinary, happy little girl. Her green eyes show no sign of the Uchiha dōjutsu, and Sasuke begins to hope that perhaps her Sharingan will not awaken for many years. Everything changes during a gathering at the Uchiha home. Naruto, Hinata, Gaara, Temari, Kankuro, Kiba, Choji, Shikamaru, Ino, Sai, Neji, and Tenten join Sasuke and Sakura for an afternoon outside. Destiny plays happily in the garden while the adults talk nearby. When a butterfly passes the edge of the property, she innocently follows it into the trees. There, Destiny discovers an injured Leaf courier lying on the ground. A masked rogue shinobi stands over him with a bloodstained kunai. The attacker turns and notices the little girl. “You weren’t supposed to see that.” Destiny backs toward a tree. “I want my papa.” The rogue notices the Uchiha crest on her dress. “You’re Sasuke Uchiha’s daughter.” He reaches for her. Destiny imagines him hurting Sakura and Sasuke next. The fear becomes so intense that pain burns
