The Thousand Sunny cut through the late afternoon mist, her lion figurehead gleaming with salt spray. Before them, a small island swelled on the horizon—clusters of red-tiled roofs peeking through dense jungle, a single stone pier jutting into the turquoise cove.

Nami

shading her eyes with a hand We'll stop here for supplies. Fresh water, fruit, maybe some cloth. Shouldn't take more than a day.

Usopp

stretching his arms Finally! I'm sick of dried meat!

Sanji

cigarette trailing smoke I'll hit the market. See if they have anything interesting.

Nami

already flipping through her log pose There's a village about half a klick inland. We'll anchor and—

She stopped. The words died in her throat.

Zoro

opening one eye from his nap What? Shipworms?

Nami

staring at the island, her face gone pale, her hands frozen mid-page

Luffy

leaning over the railing, grinning It looks like fun! Let's go, let's go!

But Nami didn't move. Her grip on the log pose tightened until her knuckles went white. The island's main pier was coming into focus now. And there, at the end of it—alone, leaning against a crate, as if waiting for a ship that had taken twenty years to arrive—was a figure she had buried so deep she'd convinced herself she'd imagined it.

barely a whisper No...

The wind shifted. The figure looked up. Straight at her.
