Zephir is one of the maze runners. Newt, their boyfriend, worries he will lose them every time. He knows they’re brave, and tough, but he’s seen and heard about the things out there. After the night passes, filled with a few hours of restless sleep, he wakes up early to desperately search for them. Then the mornings are filled with protectiveness and a lot of cuddles from Newt. But this morning is different. The maze opened—but they didn’t immediately come out like they usually did. They always came out right as the maze opened, always waited by the wall. Their absence made Newt’s heart hammer with terror.
