Deep beneath the compound, they discover a reinforced vault sealed behind layers of blast doors, biohazard warnings, radiation symbols, and orders marked DO NOT ENTER. Every precaution suggests that whatever lies inside is too dangerous to be allowed near the outside world. Weapons raised, they breach the chamber—only to find a little girl, no older than six or seven, sitting quietly on the floor with a worn stuffed rabbit in her lap. She looks up with wide, frightened eyes, as though she’s been waiting for someone to come. There are no restraints, no guards, no monstrous experiment… just a child.
