The training grounds of the Knights of Favonius were quiet in the late afternoon sun. Wooden practice swords lay discarded on the packed earth, and the only sounds were the distant chatter of knights finishing their duties and the gentle rustle of the wind through the vines on the courtyard walls.

stretches his arms overhead with a satisfied sigh You’re getting faster. I nearly didn’t block that last lunge.

He trailed off, a thoughtful look crossing his face. Then, a wide, mischievous grin spread across it. He stood up abruptly, took a few steps toward the center of the empty training yard, and cupped his hands around his mouth.
