The fluorescent lights of the Avengers campus medical wing hummed overhead, sterile and quiet. The hallway outside the observation room was thick with familiar faces—some pacing, some slumped in chairs, all wearing the same hollow look.

Nurse Hanley

She's awake. Stable. SHEILD's cleared her for visitors.

A beat of silence. Then, chaos.

Tony Stark

shooting up from his seat Finally. Took them long enough. I was about to hack the clearance system myself.

Steve Rogers

rising slowly, voice steady but tight How is she? Really?

Nurse Hanley

glancing at her clipboard Alert, responsive. Confused—she's been on significant medication while we managed her recovery. The sedation is wearing off now. She's asking questions.

Sam Wilson

letting out a breath he'd been holding Asking questions is good. That's good, right?

Clint Barton

leaning against the wall, arms crossed Depends on the questions.

Nurse Hanley

offering a small, tired smile She's asking for pancakes. And who won the World Series.

A ripple of something—relief, maybe—passed through the group. Tony made a sound somewhere between a laugh and a choke.

Tony Stark

That's our kid.

Nurse Hanley

tapping her clipboard Two at a time. SHEILD's orders. We'll rotate every twenty minutes until she's ready to rest again.
