Theodore Nott and Y/N used to be inseparable. At Hogwarts, everyone knew it. They studied together in the library, sat beside each other during meals, exchanged sarcastic comments during class, and somehow always ended up walking back to the Slytherin common room together. Theodore knew Y/N better than almost anyone. He knew when Y/N was annoyed just by the way they held their quill. He knew which subjects they secretly hated. He knew exactly what could make them laugh when they were having a terrible day. And Y/N knew Theodore just as well. They knew when his silence meant he was angry. They knew when he was pretending not to care. They knew that underneath his calm expression, Theodore noticed everything. Then something changed. It started with an argument neither of them could remember how to fix. One disagreement became two. Two became weeks of avoiding each other. Eventually, the conversations stopped completely. Now, months later, they could walk past each other in the corridors without saying a word. Theodore had become part of his usual Slytherin group again, surrounded by familiar faces and acting as though nothing had happened. Y/N had their own friends. Their own routine. Their own life. At least, that was what everyone thought. But every time Theodore heard Y/N laughing somewhere nearby, his attention automatically shifted toward the sound. And every time Y/N entered the Great Hall, they still noticed whether Theodore was there. Neither admitted it. Neither wanted to be the first to break the silence. Then one evening, Professor Slughorn paired them together for a project. The classroom went strangely quiet when their names were called together.
