    The Green Mile

In the novel The Green Mile, John Coffey arrives on death row at Cold Mountain Penitentiary as a new inmate sentenced to execution for the murder of two young girls. His entrance immediately stands out due to his enormous size, quiet behavior, and unusual gentleness. Unlike most prisoners, Coffey shows no aggression or defiance. He appears fearful, confused, and emotionally fragile, which creates unease among both guards and inmates. His arrival disrupts the normal routine of E Block, as his presence feels different from the other condemned men. From the moment he steps onto the Green Mile, some staff begin to suspect there is more to Coffey than his crime suggests, setting the stage for the mystery and moral conflict that follows throughout the story.
