Both groups are fighting over a dwindling supply of bloodfruit, their essential food source, which is locked in a magical orchard. Zed and Addison crashed their car in the woods and decided to split up to find help. Addison ended up in Shadyside, the vampires village, and Zed ended up in Sunnyside, the Daywalkers village.
