Y/n blinked heavy eyelids, the storm outside growing louder. Wind howled through the eaves. The power flickered.

Her eyelids dropped. Once. Twice. The screen blurred.

Lightning struck somewhere too close. The entire world went white.

Cold. Hard. The rumble of tires on asphalt. A metallic taste in her mouth.

Y/n’s eyes cracked open to grey sky and rain that had softened to a drizzle. She was lying on gravel. The side of a road. Trees loomed on either side, dark and dripping.

A few feet away, a faded green sign read: Cibola – 17 mi.

Tires crunched. An engine idled, low and throaty.

Boots hit gravel. Two figures stepped out of a sleek black car.

The shorter one nodded toward the treeline. Eyes scanning. Professional.
