Y/N had once believed Adrian Vale was kind. That was the part she kept remembering. They had met during their final month at Hogwarts, when graduation was close enough to taste and everyone was already beginning to imagine the lives waiting beyond the castle walls. Adrian had been sweet. He walked her to dinner. Remembered how she took her tea. Sent her little notes during lectures. He’d listened when she talked about Quidditch, Germany, her family, her plans after Hogwarts. He made her feel chosen. So when he asked her to move in with him after graduation, it hadn’t seemed frightening. It seemed like the natural continuation of something good. Except the boy she’d known at Hogwarts didn’t come home with her. Or perhaps he had. Perhaps Adrian had simply been very good at hiding him.
