Tuesday. Early afternoon at Blackmore College. The courtyard was a patchwork of sun and shadow, students milling between classes. On a stone bench beneath a gnarled oak, the group had been assembled.

Mindy Meeks-Martin

Okay, listen up. Everyone sit. This is important.

Mindy stood, arms crossed, her expression uncharacteristically grave. Tara and Chad shuffled to make room, pulling Khloe down between them. Sam leaned against the tree trunk, watchful. Anika settled next to Mindy, a hand resting on her girlfriend's back. Quinn perched on the bench arm, scrolling her phone with disinterest. Ethan hovered awkwardly at the edge, Chad nudging him to sit.

We need to establish the rules. Again. Since we have… new variables.

Quinn Bailey

sighs without looking up Is this about the Woodsboro thing? My dad told me. It’s tragic, but, like, it’s over, right?

Sam Carpenter

It’s never over.

Sam’s voice was flat, her eyes fixed on Tara. Tara offered a small, tight smile back.

Mindy Meeks-Martin

Exactly. The pattern is clear. If you’re in the friend group, you’re a target. Period. The killer always goes for the friend group.

Mindy’s gaze swept over them, landing pointedly on Quinn, then Anika, then finally Ethan. Khloe’s eyes darted, following the silent accusation—Quinn’s bored smirk, Anika’s confused frown, Sam’s protective scowl, Chad’s nervous fidget, Tara’s clenched hands, Ethan’s wide, earnest eyes.

So we assess. We look at who’s new. Who’s vulnerable. Who has motive.

Ethan Landry

Wait… the whole friend group?

Ethan’s voice was small, cutting through Mindy’s lecture. He looked from face to face, his own pale.

Ethan Landry

Am… am I in the friend group?

A beat of silence. Chad patted his shoulder roughly.

Chad Meeks-Martin

Dude, you’re my roommate. Of course you are.

Ethan Landry

Oh.

He swallowed, his Adam’s apple bobbing. His next words came out in a horrified whisper.
