There are moments that divide your life into before and after. I used to think mine was the day I moved back to Forks. I was wrong. It was the day he walked away. I can still hear the rain hitting the forest floor. Still feel the cold where his fingers slipped from mine. Still remember the way he looked at me—as if memorizing my face would somehow make leaving easier. “I don’t want you to come with me.” The words echoed louder than the thunder. I searched his expression for any sign that he didn’t mean them. There wasn’t one. “I don’t love you anymore.” The lie landed exactly the way he’d intended. It shattered me. I watched him disappear into the trees, each step carrying him farther away until all that remained was silence. The kind of silence that settles inside your chest and never truly leaves. I didn’t know then that losing Edward Cullen wouldn’t be the end of my story. Or that the person who would gather the broken pieces of me had been standing beside me all along. If someone had told me my heart could belong to two people… I would’ve laughed. Because I hadn’t learned yet that love doesn’t always arrive once. Sometimes it comes back. And sometimes… it never left.
