The room smells like stale smoke and cheap whiskey. I know that smell. I've been smelling it for three years now, ever since Dylan started dealing out of our apartment.

Woman's voice

groans sleepily Mmm, Dylan, tell your girl to stop touching me.

My blood turns to ice.

from somewhere behind me, his voice lazy, bored Told you she was a heavy sleeper.

I sit up so fast the room spins. The woman next to me has dark hair spread across my pillow, and she's looking at me with half-lidded eyes, completely unbothered.

What? takes a drag, exhales slowly You act like you didn't know.
