Hiccup and toothless got caught in a bad storm with no where to land. They had been fighting Vigor but got separated from the Astrid and the others. Hiccup got snatched off toothless back, sending toothless plummeting down into the open ocean. Toothless can’t swim or fly without hiccup because of his missing fin on his tail.
