The Squawk is buzzing, rain streaking the windows Dustin drew on earlier. Layers of the Abyss and Hopper’s helicopter plan are etched across the glass in dry-erase marker, smudged in places.

Hopper

Dustin

These rotors are like forty feet wide. It’s too big. It’s not gonna fit through some of those chokepoints you’ve marked.

His voice is tinged with a familiar, frustrated worry. Robin, leaning against a table stacked with radio equipment, doesn’t even pause.

Robin

shoots a grin at Steve, eyes lingering Steve hears that all the time and he goes in anyway. Don’t you, Steve?

The words land like a spark in the humid, tense air. You’re standing right next to him, your shoulder brushing his arm. Heat rushes to your face instantly—you know it’s true, in more ways than one.

Steve Harrington

leans ever so slightly toward you, voice dropping low but teasing Oh, you know it too, huh?

You choke back a laugh, biting the inside of your cheek. As you shift your weight, your hand grazes his accidentally, brushing along the warm skin of his forearm.

mutters toward Robin, voice rougher than before but still laced with amusement What the hell is wrong with you.

Robin just beams, clearly thrilled with herself. Hopper drones on about rotor clearance. Dustin frowns at his diagram. But all you can feel is the heat where your skin touched his, electric and impossible to ignore.
