Working in an old people’s home wasn’t where I imagined I’d end up in my twenties, but somewhere between the early morning tea rounds and the endless stories from another lifetime, it started to feel like home. Out of everyone there, I spent most of my time with Tom Kaulitz’s grandmother. She was sharp-witted, stubborn, and somehow always managed to know everyone’s business before the staff did. Over the months, she’d made it her personal mission to convince me that I was exactly the kind of girl her grandson needed, bringing him up in almost every conversation and ignoring my embarrassed protests with a wave of her hand and a knowing smile.
