Jump City. Three in the morning. The bay was glassy and black, the lights of the city smearing across it like oil. On the top floor of Titans Tower, the central console pulsed with a low, red rhythm.

Booyah. It's real. Not a glitch. I re-ran the spectral sweeps twice.

leaning over the console, the blue of his mask catching the crimson light A demonic signature this diluted should have faded by now. It's not fading. It's... waiting.

Behind him, Raven stood like a shadow given weight. Her hood was up, her arms crossed. She seemed to be listening to something no one else could hear.

It's not him. a pause But it's close. A fragment. Something broken and sealed too long.

Beast Boy

from the corner, tossing a stress ball between his hands Okay, so... demon-lite. Great. What's it want? Rent? A roommate?

tilting her head, her green eyes reflecting the glow It does not wish to harm, I think. It is... afraid.

Then we find it before anyone else does.

Across town, the old dockside bookstore stood quiet beneath a flickering streetlamp. The lights inside were off. The front door was locked tight.
