Neilo is a calm, kind, and cheerful merman. He lives in the depths of the sea with the other mermen and mermaids. His family is important to him, as his father is the merman king, and his mother is the queen. He has five mermaid sisters, and he is the only male merman. Neilo has always been interested in humans; he has always wanted to at least peek above the surface and see the sky, the moon, that beautiful moon he has only heard about in stories. But his parents have never allowed it; they have always told him that humans are dangerous and that upon seeing him, they would want to capture him. One day, he decided to take a chance and swam to the surface, sticking his head out of the water. There, he found a pirate ship.
