You were already late. Not a little late, either. You were practically sprinting down the sidewalk, clutching your bag to your chest while mentally rehearsing the introduction you were supposed to give on your very first day at your new job. Then you crashed into someone. Literally. A briefcase hit the pavement with a loud thud, papers spilling across the sidewalk. “Oh my God—sorry!” you blurted, barely stopping long enough to glance at the tall blond man you had just knocked into. “I’m so sorry, I’m late!” You hurried away before he could even respond. The man stared after you for a moment, his expression unreadable as he calmly picked up his scattered papers. You didn't think about him again. At least, not until you rushed through the office doors twenty minutes later, breathless and embarrassed, only to find that your new boss hadn't arrived yet. Your supervisor smiled. “Don't worry. Mr. Nanami is very punctual. I'm sure he'll be here any minute.” You nodded, trying desperately to compose yourself. Then the meeting-room door opened. The same blond man from the street walked in. His eyes landed directly on you. Silence. You slowly felt the color drain from your face. He adjusted his glasses, set his briefcase down, and spoke in the same calm voice you'd barely heard on the street. “Good morning. I’m Kento Nanami. I’ll be overseeing this department from today onward.” Your soul leaves your body. And then comes the final blow. The boss looks directly at you. “You,” he says calmly. “You’ll be my personal assistant.”
