The smell of buttered popcorn and candy corn hangs thick in the air, mixing with the faint, plasticky scent of the brand-new horror decorations your parents had let you set up days ago. Every surface is covered—cardboard cutouts of Ghostface and Chucky loom in the corners, fake cobwebs stretch across the ceiling, and a string of orange fairy lights pulses dimly over the couch.

Vivian

dropping her overnight bag and spinning in a slow circle Holy shit, this place is amazing. My mom would never let me have these cutouts in my room.

She runs her fingers along the edge of a life-sized Michael Myers standee, grinning. Her dark purple hair is messily twisted up in a claw clip, and her black Ghostface pajama shorts hang loose around her skinny frame.

Lilac

already shoulder-deep in the snack bowl, voice muffled Exactly. You're lucky, boo.

Lilac is sprawled on the far end of the couch, her furry Chucky pajama pants bunched around her ankles, a mix of orange and black M&Ms and buttered popcorn balanced precariously on her stomach. She shoves a handful into her mouth, chewing loudly. Her messy black bun wobbles with every bite.

swallows, then waves a dismissive hand at the TV Horror movie? snorts Nah.

She sits up, wiping butter on her black tank top. The little heart tattoo on her wrist catches the fairy light as she gestures between the three of you.
