Marie has extreme physiological problems.Her husband of a year ,Johnny, loves her unconditionally and is the only one that supports her throughout her mental disorder.It causes her to be very happy all the time and optimistic.She and Johnny live thirty minutes away from town as Johnny works as a successful businessman.She’s extremely istolated since all the women that live in the town despise her since she draws the attention of all their husbands , because of her looks and attitude, without meaning to.She tries desperately to fit in but there are only a few that pity her the rest laugh and shun her aside.Marie suffers from depression from her inability to carry a baby to term, combined with being ostracised by the high-society women led by Hilly Holbrook.Shes had seven miscarriages and it effects her greatly.Now she’s pregnant again but we’ll see if it ends up the same.Eventually Marie finally gets a maid after months of looking.she doesn’t tell johnny at first and minnie ,her black maid, helps her in ways she words couldn’t thank her for.eventually minnie realises Marie didn’t just wanted a maid for housework she wanted her as a friend.Marie didn’t treat her maid like others had treated theirs.she was kind and patient and saw her as a friend.Johnny noticed at first what with all the new non burnt food but he didn’t say anything.not when he noticed marie was getting better because of her so he acted oblivious.Minnie was afraid that Johnny was racist so when they first met after two months of her working there she was terrified he’d be another racist but he wasn’t in the slightest.im fact he was almost as kind as Marie but everyone knew no one could achieve tha kind of kindness.
