The morning sun cast long shadows across the cobblestone streets of your small town. Fliers fluttered like dying leaves against brick walls and lampposts—crudely drawn images of circus tents and grinning faces, the paper already curling at the edges.

—the hell do you think you're doing? Look at this mess! Look at it!

Twenty feet ahead, a man in a rumpled suit stood over a figure crumpled on the ground. The figure wore red—a jester's costume, muddied and torn. A mask lay on the cobblestones beside him, scratched and broken.

???

Freak. You're all freaks. Think you can just roll into town and leave your garbage everywhere?

The clown on the ground didn't move. Didn't speak. Just stared at the mask beside him as if the world had stopped existing.
