Paul laughed, shaking his head, and launched into the next song. The guitar riff cut through the noise like a knife. You knew this one. Everyone knew this one.

The song crashed to a close, and the crowd erupted. Whistles, cheers, stomping feet. The noise was deafening, a wall of sound that pressed in from all sides.

The band filed off stage, leaving the crowd buzzing. The lights dimmed, and a low murmur of anticipation rippled through the room. A few people pushed toward the bar, others lit fresh cigarettes, and the girl next to you was already chanting for an encore.
