The sun beats down on Okinawa's white sand, throwing the ocean into a thousand glittering shards of light. The water shifts from emerald to cobalt in lazy gradients, crashing gently against limestone formations that jut out from the shore like ancient teeth.

He gestures grandly at the scenery, evidently delighted with himself. A few feet away, Maki is already in the water, her dark hair slicked back as she dives under a wave. Panda is building something elaborate in the sand — a fortress, maybe, complete with moats and battlements.

Come on, Megumi! The water's perfect! You can't just sit there brooding under the umbrella all day.

A warm breeze rustles through the palm fronds overhead. In the distance, a seagull cries.
