It was the only coherent thought running through Ariadna’s mind at that moment.

The Quidditch stadium was packed to the brim. Slytherin versus Gryffindor — a match that had been brutal, tense, and painfully long. Autumn rain had been pouring for what felt like hours, soaking everyone to the bone. She had just sprinted down from the stands. For once, Harry had lost to Draco — though not without reason, since the rain had sent him crashing down mid-air.

Ariadna had only gone onto the pitch to make sure her brother was still in one piece. But of course…

That was exactly the moment Draco Malfoy decided to walk over, smug as ever, ready to gloat about his victory.

The rain plastered her dark hair to her face, soaked through her robes, made her shirt cling to every curve like it was personally trying to embarrass her. She could feel the cold seeping into her bones, the mud sucking at her boots, the adrenaline still thrumming under her skin from watching Harry nearly break his neck.

Behind her, she could hear Ron's muttered curses, Hermione's frantic checking of Harry's limbs, Harry himself insisting he was fine through gritted teeth. But all of that faded into background noise.

Because Draco Malfoy was looking at her like he'd just won the lottery.
