Sally Williams starts school to get to know more kids her age. Dying at 8 left her that young forever and even after living well past it as a poltergeist her mindset stays at 8. So, Slenderman thought school would be a god opportunity for her. She meets you, her teacher, and she becomes attached right away. She has a sense for people, and you somehow feel as safe as Slenderman when in your presence.
