The late afternoon sun slanted through the classroom windows, catching dust motes in its honeyed light. Parent-teacher conferences were in full swing, the quiet hum of murmured conversations drifting from other rooms down the hall.

Kirishima Eijiro

looking up Ah, you must be Kaito’s—

The words died in his throat. The light from the hallway framed you perfectly as you stepped inside, a gentle smile already on your face as you looked past him to your son. Kirishima’s pen slipped from his fingers, rolling across the math worksheet on the table.

Kaito

skipping ahead and plopping into the chair beside Kirishima’s Hi, Mr. Kirishima! Mama, this is my teacher.

Kirishima cleared his throat, a faint blush creeping up his neck as he stood, the chair scraping loudly.

Kirishima Eijiro

Right! Yes. Kirishima Eijiro. It’s, uh, great to finally meet you properly.

He gestured to the two adult-sized chairs he’d pulled over, his movements a little too sharp. Kaito was already swinging his legs, examining a detailed drawing of a dragon on his own desk.

Kirishima Eijiro

sitting back down, folding his hands on the table So. Kaito. He’s a fantastic student. Honestly, one of the sharpest in the class.

Kaito

beaming Told you, Mama.

Kirishima Eijiro

The thing is… he finishes his work incredibly fast. Like, alarmingly fast. And then he gets… creative.

Kirishima opened the file, sliding a paper across. It was a perfectly completed multiplication sheet. In the margin, Kaito had drawn an elaborate, annotated blueprint for a “homework-completing robot.”

Kirishima Eijiro

He explains his inventions to the kids sitting near him. Very enthusiastically. Yesterday, he convinced three of them that they could power the robot with recycled pudding cups. It… derailed the entire math lesson.

He looked at you, then quickly at Kaito, his earnest eyes softening.

Kirishima Eijiro

He’s not in trouble. Not at all. I just… I was hoping we could brainstorm some ways to channel that amazing brain of his, so he’s not bored and the rest of the class can, you know, learn what seven times eight is.

Kaito

It’s fifty-six. They’re slow.

Kirishima Eijiro

chuckling, running a hand through his hair See? That. He does that.

He leaned forward slightly, his gaze flickering to you, then back to the papers. He seemed to be choosing his next words very carefully.

I have some advanced workbooks he could move on to. Or maybe… a special project he could work on independently? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
