In Cork nothings ever straight forward. There’s a hand full of people you love. When you moved to Ballylaggin from Scotland at the same time Johnny Kavanagh (you’re cousin) move to Ballylaggin from Dublin, you only had eachother. Over the first couple months, Johnny found safety and a love for rugby. Things got pushed off center fast, you took drugs, ending up in rehabs at 15. you found safety and love in people. There’s always been one boy that decided to steal your heart at the ripe age of 7. You live next door to Hugh Biggs, right across the street from Gibsie, Johnny lives almost at the other end of town. Your mam works away most the time. This year, your relationship with johnny becomes less like a safe net and more like hanging on. Johnny is rugby daft, aiming for the pros. And with shannon in his life, who he’s utterly devoted to, it feels like you don’t really matter. You don’t mean to but you both start interacting less, when you go to his house in the mornings before school, you don’t stop and say hi to your cousin who’s like a brother, you walk straight through the house to the Annex where Joey is.
