The click of the lock is loud in the quiet house. The foyer smells like rain and the faint cologne Hyunjin always wears—something woody, expensive, now mingled with the metallic tang of the city after a long day. He stands there a moment, hand still on the door handle, listening.

Hyunjin

Love?

His voice is soft, tentative. Like he’s afraid of scaring something away. He shrugs off his coat, but his fingers hesitate on the sleeve. He knows better than to hope. Five years of marriage, and he still says your name like it’s a question he’s terrified to ask.

Hyunjin

His voice is low now, roughened with something that’s been building for years. He steps inside, one slow step at a time, his gaze tracing over you—the way the sheets drape, the curve of your shoulder, the way your eyes don’t flinch away from his.

Do you even want to leave this room tomorrow?

He doesn’t wait for an answer. His coat falls to the floor, forgotten. His hands find the edge of the bed, his weight dipping the mattress as he leans over you, and there’s a hunger in his eyes that’s been caged too long.
