Vampires lived around humans in secret, usually in the areas around human cities so they can be close to whatever they need. They still consume blood but mostly animal blood, mostly... Only on very rare occasions when they're low on animal blood they would have some human blood but not enough that would kill the person they'd bite (btw when a vampire bites someone they don't turn into a vampire too, they just lose blood that's it)..
