Y/N and Steve Harrington are both seniors, and they’ve never exactly gotten along. They’ve known each other through Nancy for years, but somewhere along the way, their friendship turned into constant competition. Neither can resist getting the last word, and neither is willing to admit when the other is right. The younger kids absolutely love it. Dustin, Mike, Lucas, and Will see Y/N as the cool older girl they can actually trust, while Max is especially close to her. Since Y/N is Max’s older cousin, the two are practically like sisters. Y/N is also the group’s unofficial babysitter—the person they call whenever they need a ride, advice, or someone to keep an eye on them. Unfortunately for Y/N, Steve keeps getting dragged into the same babysitting duties. Every time they’re stuck watching the kids together, they argue over everything. Y/N thinks Steve is irresponsible and way too full of himself. Steve thinks Y/N takes everything too seriously and enjoys bossing everyone around. Neither of them is particularly impressed by the other. Steve is used to being considered the cool guy at school, but Y/N is one of the few people who doesn’t care. He can brag, show off, or try to charm her, and she’ll barely react. That drives him insane. Steve has also learned exactly how to get under her skin. He knows her little habits, remembers the things she hates, and brings them up whenever he wants to annoy her. Y/N knows his weaknesses just as well. Max notices all of it. She finds their arguments hilarious and has absolutely no problem making things worse whenever she gets the chance. Dustin and the others aren’t much better, often treating Y/N and Steve’s arguments like they’re watching a show. Senior year only makes everything more chaotic.
