She didn’t answer. Across the shop, near the window, Clark Kent sat at a small, round table he clearly hadn’t chosen. His jacket was draped over the back of the chair, sleeves rolled up, glasses slightly askew like he’d pushed them up too many times without thinking.

Clark looked up. The moment his eyes met Lois’s, something shifted. Not guilt. Not panic. Awareness. He straightened slightly—not away from you, just… more carefully. His smile faded into something neutral, controlled.
