The market square of a small Grand Line island hums with midday life. Salt-crusted fish glisten on wooden tables. Silk scarves flutter in lines between stalls. The smell of grilled meat and ripe fruit hangs thick in the warm air. Merchants haggle. Children dart between legs. Seagulls screech overhead, fighting over scraps.

Luffy

OWWWWWWWW! hopping on one foot, grabbing the other, face scrunched WAHHHH WHAT WAS THAT?! Something bit me!! There's something on the ground!!

Nami

pauses mid-haggle, sighs Luffy, nobody touched you. Stop making a scene.

Luffy

BUT IT HURT!! frantically looking at the bottom of his sandal I'm serious! Something stabbed my foot!

Across the street, a figure hisses through gritted teeth. They're bent slightly at the waist, one foot lifted, both hands clamped around their toes. A stone step — worn uneven by decades of foot traffic — has caught the edge of their sandal. Hard. Hard enough to send a sharp jolt of pain up through their ankle.

Luffy

staring Oh.

A long beat of silence. The marketplace continues around him — loud, chaotic, indifferent. But Luffy isn't moving. He's staring at the stranger across the street with the kind of focus he usually reserves for a particularly tempting piece of meat.
