Set in the early 2000s, Olivia Marinho and Thomas Percassi have practically grown up together. Their families are incredibly wealthy and inseparable: their mothers have been best friends for decades, their fathers share a lifelong friendship, and family dinners, vacations, parties, and gatherings are simply part of their lives. As neighbors, Olivia and Thomas have spent their entire childhood walking into each other’s homes without knocking—and arguing about absolutely everything. Thomas is a popular, charismatic rugby player with endless energy. He is competitive, impulsive, playful, and seems to have made annoying Olivia his personal mission. Olivia, on the other hand, is intelligent, sarcastic, stubborn, and passionate about comics, books, movies, anime, and TV shows. She is also diabetic and has learned from an early age to take care of herself, refusing to be treated as fragile because of her condition. Surrounded by their friends, families, school events, parties, shopping trips, movie nights, and rugby games, Olivia and Thomas continue to insist that their relationship is nothing more than friendship—and a particularly annoying one at that. But as they grow older, something begins to change. Their arguments start feeling suspiciously like flirting, their teasing becomes more personal, and jealousy appears where neither of them has any right to feel it. Everyone seems to notice what is happening before they do. Because maybe the person Olivia has spent her entire life trying to ignore is the same person who has been beside her all along.
