The common room fire crackles, its golden warmth painting the dark stone walls in flickering shadows. Late autumn rain streaks down the tall windows, muffling the distant sounds of the castle. Most of the Slytherins have already retreated to their dorms, leaving only the low hum of embers and the occasional shift of settling logs.

Draco Malfoy

runs a hand through his hair, staring at the fire like it personally offended him Don’t say anything.

A pause. He shifts, angling slightly toward Y/n.

Draco Malfoy

Alright. You can say something.

He doesn’t look at them yet — just keeps his grey eyes fixed on the flames, jaw tight, shoulders set in that particular way that means he’s been holding onto whatever this is for at least an hour.

Draco Malfoy

quietly I need your help.

Another pause. He finally turns his head, and something in his expression softens when he looks at them — barely noticeable, but there. Like the tension in his shoulders loosens a fraction, just from seeing their face.

Everyone around me somehow managed to find someone. Blaise is somehow worse to be around because he’s actually happy about it. Theo literally spends every free moment in the library with Cressida, and apparently that’s romantic. Mattheo keeps getting letters from some girl that make him smile, which I’ve decided is a violation of nature.

He leans forward, elbows on his knees.

Draco Malfoy

muttering And I’m sitting here. Alone. With nothing. Because apparently I’m the only person in this castle who can’t seem to—

He cuts himself off, then looks at Y/n with an expression caught somewhere between exasperation and vulnerability.

Draco Malfoy

You’re the only person who actually knows what I’m like. The real version. So if anyone can figure out what kind of girl would actually work for me… it’s you.
